Postal Strikes leave over 20 million items undelivered

01/09/2009

A million items have been left undelivered by Bristol's postal workers following a series of summer strikes. Nationally, the backlog of mail caused by the series of strikes by postal workers has soared to millions of items and is now bigger than the national dispute two years ago, union leaders claimed today.

The backlog is 20 million items in London, a million in Bristol, half a million in Peterborough and quarter of a million in Leeds, said the Communication Workers Union.Fresh strikes have been announced for Bristol next week, as well as other regions including London, Birmingham, Coventry, Essex, South Wales, Warrington, Glasgow and Leeds. The CWU has been taking industrial action for months in a long-running row over pay, jobs and services and is preparing to hold a national ballot for strikes among 130,000 workers later this month.

Priority Express offers a full range of 1Kg Mail Pack, 5Kg Courier Pack and parcel & freight services to business customers. All of these services are operated using our own independent networks which are unaffected by the postal disputes. For more information, call your local depot on 08700 135 100.
